American Indians on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation: Median household income

These data come from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, data.census.gov. They are based on averages of data collected in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. These estimates cannot be used to say what is going on in any particular year in the period, only what the average value is over the full period. Some reservations have no data reported due to their small populations.

Median household income is the level of income at which half the population has lower incomes and half has higher incomes. Here, we provide information on real median household income, which means the data have been adjusted for inflation.

In 2016-2020...

  • median household income (adjusted for inflation) was $42,440 among American Indians on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation.

Please note that ORTL stands for Off-Reservation Trust Land.

Note: NA = Not Available. The Census Bureau does not report data for all reservations for all reference years. Note that information presented here pertains only to people who identified themselves on the census questionnaire as American Indian or Alaska Native (AIAN). 2000 data pertain only to people who identified themselves as one race only, that is, as AIAN. See (http://www.census.gov/prod/2002pubs/c2kbr01-15.pdf) for information about AIAN data in the 2000 census. We adjusted median household income by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which is a measure of inflation. Using the CPI to put dollar values in "real" terms makes it easier to see "inflation-free" change over time. Our base year is 2021, which means all dollar values are in terms of 2021 dollars. For more information, see (http://www.bls.gov/cpi/home.htm) These ACS data are estimates based on a five-year average, meaning that data gathered from 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 are averaged together to come up with the results shown here. There is no problem with comparing these data to census data from 2000. For a technical discussion of the "margins of error" associated with ACS estimates, please see: (https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/guidance/training-presentations/acs-moe.html)
