American Indians on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation: Poverty rate, overall

These data come from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, data.census.gov. They are based on averages of data collected in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. These estimates cannot be used to say what is going on in any particular year in the period, only what the average value is over the full period. Some reservations have no data reported due to their small populations.

The poverty rate is the percentage of people living below the poverty level or “threshold.” Each year, the U.S. Office of Management and Budget establishes a series of poverty thresholds for different family sizes and ages of household heads.

Among American Indians on the Coeur d'Alene Reservation in 2016-2020...

  • The poverty rate was 28 percent.

  • 407 people lived in households with an income below the poverty level.

Please note that ORTL stands for Off-Reservation Trust Land.

Note: NA = Not Available. The Bureau does not report data for all reservations for all reference years. Data presented here pertain only to people who identified themselves on the census questionnaire as American Indian or Alaska Native (AIAN). 2000 data pertain only to people who identified themselves as one race only, that is, as AIAN. See (http://www.census.gov/prod/2002pubs/c2kbr01-15.pdf) for information about AIAN data in the 2000 census. These ACS data are estimates based on a five-year average, meaning that data gathered from 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020 are averaged together to come up with the results shown here. There is no problem with comparing these data to census data from 2000. For a technical discussion of the "margins of error" associated with ACS estimates, please see: (https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/acs/guidance/training-presentations/acs-moe.html)
